High-Level Security Review Underway
In response to the deteriorating security situation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to chair a series of high-level meetings today. The Cabinet Committee on Security will convene for the second time since the Pahalgam attack, followed by a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs. Additionally, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs will gather ahead of a full cabinet session, reflecting the government’s comprehensive approach to both national security and broader administrative concerns.
Tourist Locations Shut Amid Security Concerns
In the wake of the attack, the Jammu and Kashmir administration has taken the precautionary measure of closing 49 tourist destinations across the Union Territory. This decision follows a thorough security audit of approximately 87 sites across the Valley, carried out by security forces. According to sources, the audit has led to plans for the re-deployment of troops and enhanced military oversight at several locations that will remain open to the public.
Authorities have also introduced additional layers of security checks at tourist spots that are still accessible, aiming to ensure the safety of both residents and visitors as the situation evolves.
